Schedule of Events


The 2017 Telluride Plein Air event  will be June 28-July 4, 2017. Artists will arrive and begin painting in and around the Telluride area on June 28, with the sale on July 2-4 in front of the Sheridan Opera House (Oak Street and Elks Park).


 2017 Schedule of Events


June 28 - July 4, 2017- All Day—

Plein Air Artists at Work - Various Locations in and around Telluride
Visitors and locals alike will have the unique opportunity to observe 27 of the nation's top plein air artists as they paint on location in Telluride, Colorado preparing for the three-day art sale on July 2-4.


June 28-30, 2017, 3-7 p.m.—

Wet Room open in Sheridan Opera House
 Artists will hang newly completed pieces for viewing and sale in the days leading up to the main sale. This is a perfect way for people who won’t be in town for the Fourth of July holiday to purchase artwork in advance, or for others to get a preview of what will be available at the sale.


Friday June 30, 2017, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.— Quick Draw
A 90-minute painting competion in the heart of Telluride followed by event judging and sale outside of the Sheridan Opera House. The winner will be awarded $800 at 1 p.m. in front of the Sheridan Opera House.


Saturday, July 1, 2017- (5-6 p.m. VIP only,) (6-7 p.m. open to public)—

VIP Artist Choice Preview & Wine Tasting - Sheridan Opera House SHOW Bar
SAF patrons and members are invited to  preview the best of the festival with our Artist Choice preview and cocktail party.


Saturday, July 1, 2017 - 6-7 p.m.—

Artist Choice Preview & Wine Tasting - Sheridan Opera House SHOW Bar
Open to the public! Stop by the Sheridan Opera House to preview each artist’s favorite piece created throughout the week. All Artist Choice paintings will be up for sale. The Artist Choice will be awarded $1,500  at 6:30 p.m.


Sunday, July 2, 2017, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday & Tuesday July 3 & 4, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.—

Plein Air Art Sale - Sheridan Opera House Courtyard /Elks Park
Join us in the Opera House courtyard and Elks Park for a sale of pieces created during the week-long celebration. Please note that artists are limited to hanging eight-10  paintings at one time, so new paintings will continually be displayed as others sell — especially on the second day of the sale! Please note: if there is inclement weather, the sale will be moved inside the Sheridan Opera House theater.
